SEUNG HEE BAE

About Me

I joined the Department of Computer Science at Western Michigan University as an Assistant Professor in Fall 2016.

Before joining WMU, I was a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Washington, where I worked with Dr. Bill Howe and Database Group. Prior to joining UW, I had been in the School of Informatics and Computing at Indiana University, Bloomington for my Ph.D. My Ph.D. advisor was Professor Geoffrey C. Fox. Before joining IU-Bloomington, I had been in the School of Computer Science and Engineering at Seoul National University and the School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering at Handong Global University for my Master and Bachelor degree, respectively.

My research interests cover parallel and distributed computing, large-scale data mining and machine learning, big data systems and applications, and optimization algorithms. In specific, I would like to work on scalable parallel data mining algorithms which facilitate computational and scientific applications by dealing with large-scale data via employing efficient parallel computing strategies to them by applying appropriate parallel runtime models, such as MPI, OpenMP, GraphLab, (iterative) MapReduce, GPGPU etc., on various parallel and distributed environments. I am also highly interested in applying the optimization techniques underlying data mining and machine learning algorithms in order to achieve better quality outputs as well as high efficiency in parallel.

I am looking for new Ph.D. students who are excellent, enthusiastic, and self-motivated. If you are interested in parallel computing and large-scale data analysis, send me an email with your CV.
